Vita da uomo di Salinger / Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye

De Il giovane Holden abbiamo sentito parlare tutti, ma del libro Vita da uomo, a cura di Jacopo Darca, forse siamo in pochi a sapere. 

Si tratta della prima, sfortunatissima, edizione del capolavoro di Salinger, divenuto ormai un classico della letteratura americana del Novecento. Il romanzo otterrà il dovuto successo in Italia soltanto con la seconda edizione, a cura di Einaudi, del 1961.

Uscito soltanto l'anno precedente negli Stati Uniti come opera prima dell'autore, con il titolo The Catcher in the Rye, questa sorta di bildungsroman anticipa in qualche modo la letteratura dei giovani "arrabbiati" inglesi, quali Colin MacInnes con il suo Absolute Beginners. Oggi la sua valutazione per un esemplare firmato arriva a 11.000 euro, spesso trattato dalla casa d'aste Christie's di Londra.

La prima edizione italiana, invece, non raggiunge tali cifre, ma si aggira comunque sui 200-300 euro.

Un prezzo meritato per un buon romanzo.

About Il giovane Holden we all already heard, but about the book Vita da uomo, curated by Jacopo Darca, maybe not many of us know.

I'm referring to the first, unlucky, edition of the Salinger's masterpiece, which has become a classic of the american XX century literature. The novel will reach the success in Italy only after the second Einaudi's edition of 1961.

This kind of bildungsroman, called The Catcher in the Rye, which was published a year before the italian edition and which is the first work of the author, anticipates somehow the literary genre of the english "angry" guys, like Colin MacInnes with his Absolute Beginners. Actually a signed copy reaches 11.000 euros, often sold by the auction house Christie's in London.

The first italian edition it's not so expensive, but anyway the estimation is around 200-300 euros. 

A justified price for a good novel.
