Una piccola chicca dal mondo kerouakiano: la sua prima opera maggiore di stampo autobiografico, pubblicata con un nome fittizio.
Il romanzo vede come protagonista il primo nucleo Beat risalente agli anni Quaranta a New York, tra cui troviamo anche Allen Ginsberg e William Burroughs.
La Scribner's lo rifiutò, anche se le motivazioni erano legate a questioni economiche: il libro era troppo lungo e comportava troppe spese. E dopo successive peripezie uscì per l'attuale editore, ma non fu un grande successo.
Al momento lo si può trovare anche a 150-180 euro, senza sovraccoperta anche a meno.
