Art from Eighties

Miei cari appassionati di arte contemporanea, questo è uno di quei cataloghi che visti dal vivo mandano letteralmente in visibilio. A me non è mai successo di averlo in mano, ma se mi capitasse sarei sicura di non riuscire a lasciarlo andare.

Innanzitutto per la grafica: sintetica e pulitissima, come si addice a un catalogo all'avanguardia. 

Poi per l'importanza della mostra che ha accompagnato, dove per la prima volta espongono alcuni nomi destinati a rimanere nel panorama internazionale dell'arte (per esempio Robert Longo o Keith Haring) e che prima di allora lavoravano nelle emarginate gallerie dell'East Village a New York.

L'intenzione, dichiarata dall'introduzione al catalogo, non era quella di presentare una vera e propria "scuola", bensì quella di far esporre un gruppo di artisti figurativi sotto il comune denominatore del gusto per la provocazione.

Il catalogo risulta piuttosto raro ed è valutato dal noto antiquario newyorchese Harper's Books (da cui ho tratto l'immagine) 373 euro.

My dear contemporary art lovers, this is one of the catalogues that literally could drive us crazy if seen in person. Personally I've never had a copy in my hand, but if it will happen I'm sure I won't be able to leave it there.

First of all because of its design: synthetic and clean, as a real avant-garde catalogue.

Secondly for the importance of the exhibition it accompagned, where the names of the future contemporary art world were exposed for the first time (for ex. Robert Longo or Keith Haring) and who since then were working in the marginalised New York East Village galleries.

The intention declared in the catalogue's introduction wasn't to present any 'school' of artists, but, rather, a wide selection of figurative artists whose common concern is a passion for provocative imagery.

The catalogue is quite rare and valued by the famous New York bookseller Harper's Books (see the link below the picture) at 373 euros (ca. 450 dollars).
