I patiti di "intrecci bibliofilici" saranno sicuramente a conoscenza di questo succosissimo libro di memorie.
Si tratta del racconto del libraio Giuseppe Orioli di un'intera vita passata a contatto con librerie antiquarie e collezionisti, ma anche della vicenda che lo vide stampatore a Firenze della prima proibitissima edizione assoluta del Lady Chatterley's Lover di David Herbert Lawrence (magari ne riparleremo, ma nel frattempo se volete approfondire andatevi a vedere questo link). Il tutto narrato in maniera molto leggera e divertente, senza trascurare dettagli interessanti e per noi preziosissimi.
La prima edizione di questo memoir (non comune da trovarsi) uscì nel 1944 da parte della casa editrice Modernissima, ristampato poi un'unica volta molti anni dopo... indovinate da chi? dall'antiquario e bibliofilo Alberto Vigevani (vedi mio post). E il cerchio si chiude.
L'occasione per parlarne mi è stata data dalla notizia (letta su Charta dello scorso bimestre) da parte della Libreria Naturalistica Piani della messa in vendita dell'edizione del '44, con tanto di rara sovraccoperta. Se vi interessa, affrettatevi!

It's a novel of the bookseller Giuseppe Orioli about an entire life spent in antiquarian libraries and with collectors, but it also talks about his experience as the publisher in Florence of the first forbidden edition of David Herbert Lawrence's Lady Chattarley's Lover (maybe I will talk about it again, but in the meantime you can know more at the link). All narrated in a very easy and funny way, without leaving out some interesting details about collecting.
The first edition of this quite uncommon book went out in 1944 by the publisher Modernissima, then it was reprinted many years ago...wanna know by whom? from the antiquarian and bibliophile Alberto Vigevani (read the post). And the circle closes.
The occasion to talk about it came from the news I red on the last issue of Charta that the library Libreria Naturalistica Piani was selling a copy of the '44 edition, with the rare dust jacket.
