Questa settimana mi sono divertita a spulciare rarità sul sito americano di Ebay.
Vagando tra aste infuocate e popolate da nomi talvolta a me sconosciuti ho notato che, analogamente a quanto accade da noi, il crime e la fantascienza fanno da protagonisti.
Infatti le offerte più numerose e le aste più avvincenti vedono come protagonisti prime edizioni - anche autografe - di Stephen King, Scott Lynch, Dan Simmons o Anne Rice. Un esempio è il fondamentale Shining di Stephen King, edito da Doubleday nel 1977: al momento si rivela tra i più contesi in asta.
Per gli appassionati di letteratura contemporanea, invece, segnalo la prima edizione inglese - arricchita da rinvio autografo - di Amsterdam, opera incentrata sul rapporto particolare tra un redattore di giornale e un compositore. Pubblicata dal grande scrittore inglese Ian McEwan nel 1998, nello stesso anno l'opera fu vincitrice del prestigioso premio Booker Prize.
Mentre in Italia l'autore è sì conosciuto e amato ma non collezionato, in America si guarda già a fare investimenti nei futuri classici della letteratura mondiale.

Wandering through hot auction, full of names sometimes quite unknown to me I noticed that, similarly to what happens in Italy, crime and science fiction books are the most popular ones.
Indeed, the most numerous biddings are for books like signed first Stephen King's editions, Scott Lynch's, Dan Simmons' or Anne Rice's. An example is the foundamental Stephen King's Shining, published in 1977 by Doubleday. Currently is one of the most contended book on Ebay.
But to the lovers of contemporary literature I suggest the first english edition (enriched by the author's signature) of Amsterdam, a book based on a particular relationship between a magazine editor and a composer. The book was wrote by the english writer Ian McEwan in 1998 and in the same year the book won the prestigious Booker Prize.
While in Italy the author is famous but not collected, in America they are already looking forward, investing in future classics of the world literature.
