The Hirschhorn's "battle" / La "battaglia" di Hirschhorn

I can't wait to see the Venice Biennale. It is one of the events I simply adore and every time it's a surprise, but also a certainty. No matter what they say, it remains the most important italian, and not only, artistic event.
From the past edition I remember knowing Thomas Hirschhorn's art, which I completely ignored. In the Swiss Pavilion he created an involving aluminum and scotch made cave, which was including the symbols of the contemporary times, from the mobile phones, to his usual mutilated women's mannequins and images from the war's tragedies.
I was amazed especially by the meticulousness of the operation, which took months of work and which, I've found out, is his distinctive mark. Hirschhorn always creates autre worlds, emotionally strong and always committed.
An as much famous example, proved by this amazing catalogue called Bataille Maschine, is the Bataille Monument installation from 2002, realized on the occasion of the renowned german Documenta 11 group exhibition, usually organized every five years in Kassel.
As the title says, the work was dedicated to the surrealist french writer Georges Bataille and it was built outside the Documenta's pavilion. In the catalogue Hirschhorn choosed to explain every single phase of the creation, which was including a TV studio, a video and book library with books on Philosophy (related to Bataille's work topics) and with an exhibition dedicated to the writer.
But the most extraordinary aspect was his decision to choose turkish immigrants, who were living in the neighbourhood, - payed 8 euros an hour - to help him.
So the work becomes an opportunity to think about the social problems, working concretely and breaking the rules and conventions.
Going back to the catalogue I've showed, I bought it on the german ebay for a few dozen of euros. With a little bit of patience it is possible to find it for less than the actual estimation, which goes from 70 to 100 euros.
